Beginner English classes, one-on-one tutoring, and conversation groups in a 24-town area including Burlington, Billerica, and Woburn. Historically, English at Large holds conversation groups here at Burlington Public Library. Practice your English and make new friends! You must register early for English at Large classes, tutoring, and conversation groups. English at Large is now accepting referrals for their new Beginner English Program for Refugee Learners.

Beginner and advanced ESL classes offered mornings and evenings from September to June. Registration opens each year in August and early December. In addition to learning English, students improve their technology skills, and increase their American cultural awareness. Advisors in the program help students set goals, assist them with planning for higher education, certifications and/or getting jobs in the United States.

The Adult Learning Center is an excellent free program. ESL classes are not offered here but the program does provide multiple levels of classroom instruction in beginning and intermediate reading, writing, and mathematics. Instruction is geared toward improving English proficiency and general academic skills. Classes are provided that help students prepare for the HiSet or GED and basic computer skills are also taught. Classes meet during Fall and Spring semesters.

English for Speakers of Other Languages classes at Grace Chapel are designed to help immigrants and other internationals in the local community learn conversational English in a comfortable setting. Class levels range from beginner to advanced and are held on Wednesday morning. All registration and classes are held in-person at 2 Militia Drive.
$50.00 per semester, which includes books and materials.

The Immigrant Learning Center offers free English classes to immigrants and refugees age 16 and older. All classes are taught in English with instruction in speaking, reading, writing, listening, grammar and computer skills. Instruction is given exclusively in English for a total immersion experience. Morning classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Afternoon classes meet Monday through Thursday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Most classes are in-person while maintaining COVID-19 safety practices.
